Bikes For Life

Bikes For Life encourages Colorado youth to develop healthy habits and a lifelong commitment to wellness through bicycling.  Bikes For Life will provide free bicycles and helmets to 1,000 qualifying, low-income children from the Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Denver, Children's Hospital Colorado clinics, and Rocky Mountain Youth Clinics.

Bikes For Life advocates for healthier kids in three ways:

  • Using bikes to encourage physical activity.  Bicycles will serve as an incentive to encourage increased physical activity and develop long-term lifestyle habits.
  • Providing ongoing skills and education services.  Bicycling safely is a priority, and participants and their families will be invited to participate in community events focused on improving skills and encouraging safe bicycling.
  • Conducting research.  In return for a free bicycle, participating youth commit to bicycling on a regular basis.  Children's Colorado researchers will provide ongoing support and evaluation.  Ultimately, researchers at Children's Colorado will be able to report on how bicycling can improve health status as a result of engaging in physical activity.
