I am riding with the Cardiac Climbers to support Children's Hospital Colorado. In 2018 my son Lawson was born with life threatening cardiac defects that were undiagnosed in his ultrasounds. When he was just 8 days old I drove him to the ER at at Children's in Aurora and in a whirlwind of a night he was diagnosed with a coarctation of the aorta, large VSD and small ASD. This meant that the blood leaving his heart couldn't effectively get to his body and he had two holes in his chambers of the heart. He was in heart and liver failure. He was stabilized and underwent life saving surgery at 11 days old.
We were so thankful to every staff member and volunteer at CHC. In addition to saving Lawson's life they cared for my husband, older son and myself as we were suddenly thrust into an new reality.
Today Lawson is crushing it as a spunky, busy, happy 1.5 year old. His surgery was successful and he has had great checkups at the Heart Insitude every couple months since. We continue to be so thankful to the team at CHC for his ongoing care
The Courage Classic is not only a personal challenge, but also an opportunity to support positive outcomes and healthier futures for children.
