“We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help usdevelop endurance. For we know howdearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love." ~Romans 5:3-5

This verse has often come to mind during this pandemic time for me. Knowing God’s love never abandons us gives Bill and I comfort and hope. Once the weather turned agreeable, we got on our bikes and have been training hard. Bill has recovered from last year’s spill and now enjoying the outdoor biking. He says he’s still not as strong as he was last year, but he suspects age might be a contributing factor! (He turns 79 this year). Since Missie is still working out of the house, she often rides with us, which has been great. It’s also been somewhat humbling, as she powers up the hills and often has to wait at the top for the old folks.

We were notified a couple weeks ago that the Courage Classic 2020 will proceed as a virtual event – whatever that means! Bill and I don’t do virtual. Since our condo reservations are still good and Copper Mountain is open, we have decided to do the ride in person(s). Missie is going to join us. We won’t have the support like other years such as porta-potties, first aid, dill pickle juice or snacks, etc.; however, we will manage. Children’s Hospital, Colorado Springs, which opened May 28, 2019, needs us now more than ever. Along with the incredible work Children’s is doing related to COVID-19 – including research, caregiver relief efforts and telemedicine – they continue to provide world-class medical care for children whose injuries and illnesses cannot wait. Sick kids don’t get to take a break from medical treatments, even in a pandemic. As a nonprofit hospital, Children’s depends on the generosity of the community.

Noah, the main reason for our devotion to Children’s, continues to thrive. He has just completedhis first year of college, working hard and doing well (straight A's!). He finished his unusual first year at Rollins College in Florida from home on-line, as did most students. He’s not crazy about “virtual” either. We are ready to ride on July 18 & 19, even without the support system that is usually in place, and hope you are willing to make a donation. Your generosity always makes climbing Vail Pass easier!
