I am proud to announce my participation in this year’s Courage Classic as a member of the Dare to Ride Team benefiting the Anna & John J. Sie Center for Down Syndrome.
I was interested in riding due to past involvement with the Global Down Syndrome Foundation but committed when I met one of the team captains—Connor Long, a 23-year old man with Down Syndrome. Connor’s enthusiasm for the ride was evident when he told me this would be his fifth Classic and he quickly reassured me that I could do it too.
Connor’s ability to participate as an independent rider in a physically challenging event like this is testimony to the exceptional range and quality of care he received from Children’s Hospital Colorado specialists as an adolescent and young adult. Physician Dr. Fran Hickey, physical therapist Patricia Winders and other members of the team at the Sie Center effectively collaborate with Children’s Hospital Colorado specialists to address the unique needs of each patient with Down syndrome.
The Courage Classic supports the Sie Center and its partnership with Children’s Hospital Colorado. Please support my ride this July in honor of (and with!) Connor and the 1,400 other patients who have benefited from the Sie Center.
Thank you, Brian
