I am riding the Courage Classic as a member of the Team Kempe for Kids to raise funds for the Kempe Center for the Prevention and Treatment of Child Abuse and Neglect. For nearly 50 years the Kempe Center has strived to improve the care and well being of all children by strengthening families, communities, and the systems that serve them. Through clinical service. reserach, education and training, the Center supports innovation in systems and communities that work with vulnerable children, youth, and families.
The new Executive Director of the Kempe Center, Dr. Kathi Wells, has a great vision for the Center, recently commenting: "In my experience, child abuse and neglect can't be solved by one person or profession. In this role, I hope to build on the tremendous reputation and history of the Kempe Center as a leader in preventing and treating child abuse and neglect. We hope to build and strengthen the community partnerships we have with the State of Colorado and counties around the state. In doing so, I hope Colorado will be a model for the rest of the country."
I worked with Dr. Wells in her previous position at Denver Health. I know that she has the energy and skills to move the Kempe Center forward in support of the needs of our community. I hope that you will join me in donating to support the Center by sponsoring me as a rider in the Courage Classic. I will be riding with my wife, Sue Townsend MD, and other members of the Team Kempe for Kids.
Thanks, Ron Townsend MD
