Hi. My name is Haydan and I am 11 years old. I have four friends who are patients at Children's Hospital: Jayce, Madelyn, Emery, and Kylee. I love my friends. I want to ride to support them, and ride for all of the other kids that cannot ride for themselves. I love my friends.
Note from Haydan's Mother: Haydan has been friends with Madelyn and Jayce for most of their lives. They were church nursery buddies, and have been friends ever since.
Sweet Madelyn is for whom Team Madelyn is named. When she was one year old, she was life-flighted from Yuma to Children's Hospital Denver because she began throwing up blood. It is there that she was diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis in the portal vein (unknown cause), resulting in portal vein hypertension, an enlarged spleen and non-cirrhotic esophageal varices. Essentially, the vessels lining her esophagus cannot handle the increased pressure (due to back up blood flow from the port to her liver) and burst into her esophagus, and she is monitored regularly to manage the varices and her overall health. Madelyn is a southern belle, sweet to the core, and our little pipsqueak.
Jayce is Haydan's partner in crime. He is a more recent patient to Children's, and is presently undergoing tests to see why he has an inability to sweat. As he ages, more health concerns arise: vision sensitivity and migraines to name a few. He cannot participate in the same activities other kids his age can do for fear that he may overheat. Jayce is a go-getter, all boy, and sure to get into lots of mischief with Haydan over the years.
Jayce's older sister, Kylee, is a really good friend of mine, too. She was recently diagnosed with scholiosis, and the doctors at Children's Hospital have been great in pursuing treatment. Kylee is awesome!
Haydan was there to cheer on Team Madelyn at the Courage Classic in years past and participated in the ride in 2016, 2017, and 2018. He rides for Madelyn and Jayce, and for his newest friend who is a patient at Children's Hospital, Emery Louthan.
