Why I Ride
Every summer Children's Hospital of Colorado sponsors a two day mountain road bike trek in colorado's high country, called the Courage Classic. Riders are challenged to collect donations to support the hospitals work, and physically challenged to ride over 100 miles, over some incredible mountain peaks. All the funds I collect are given directly to the Heart Insitiute at Children's Hospital Colorado.
I ride as a member of the Caradic Climbers team, for kids like Cash. Cash was born with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. His family was completely taken by surprise when the doctors told them about Cash's heart condition hours after he was born. He was put on the heart transplant list at only 1 month old. We waited 51 days on the list before Cash received his heart. Cash is an amazing 3 1/2 year old boy who is loved beyond belief. The road has been very hard to say the least, but worth every second. his family is incredibly grateful to his donor family and all the amazing doctors and nurses at Children's Hospital Colorado who saved their miracle boy, Baby Cash. Cash is doing amazing today and has a baby sister Audrina who is 15 months old.
Cash will not be the last child to face a life-threatening illness, and his family will not be the last to navigate a frightening diagnosis like his. The Courage Classic is both a personal challenge for me, and an opportunity to support positive outcomes for kids and families who need Children's Hospital here in Colorado.
When I think about Cash and his family, their courage and dedication gives me energy and strength.
Please consider making a donation to Children's Hospital. Cash, his family and I would really appreciate your help!
