Mental health is a big part of the reason why I became a fundraiser for Children's Hospital Colorado 20 years ago. Mental health is very personal and close to my heart as I have navigated my own challenges as well as those of my family's. Long before the Covid pandemic arrived, our state had been faced with startling statistics such as suicide remaining the #1 cause of death for kids in Colorado. I have seen the numbers daily at Children's Hospital Colorado as our in-patient rooms remain at capacity and as suicide rates continue to increase due to our kids facing isolation, anxiety and all the unknowns that Covid has brought on.
I am so excited to be riding again with our Psyched to Climb team. As the only team in the Courage Classic solely supporting pediatric mental health, our 60+ challengers are hell-bent on PUSHING PAST OUR GOAL OF $100,000. Any gift you can make - $100, $250, $500 and $1000 or more will make a massive impact for our patients and families being served by our incredible team at our Pediatric Mental Health Institute (PMHI). MY PERSONAL GOAL IS $20,000.
Our PMHI served more than 7,700 children in 2020. The Outpatient Clinic had 24,760 visits; 8,387 of these visits were telehealth visits as our team had to pivot to accommodate the ever-changing landscape of the mental health crisis due to the pandemic. The suicide rate in Colorado is now 2nd highest in the nation and suicide is the leading cause of death for kids in Colorado.
- One in five youth are affected by mental illness and only one of three of those affected received mental health services.
- On average, youth struggle with symptoms of mental health issues for eight to 10 years before accessing care. We know that early access to quality mental health care significantly improves outcomes, so we need to let families know it is necessary to speak up and seek services for their children.
- Each year, we lose millions of dollars helping kids in mental health crises. Many of the mental health providers have been forced to close because the deficit is too great, or the stress is just too much.
- Despite this losing financial battle, we stay true to our north star of doing what is right for kids. We say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.
THANK YOU TO MY LOYAL DONORS & FRIENDS! PLEASE HELP ME REACH MY GOAL OF $20,000!
