I ride to give hope to Children's Hospital Colorado patients like Hunter. Hunter was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. His parents did not find out until after birth and he was flown to Children's Hospital Colorado. Hunter underwent 2 open heart surgeries and 2 cardiac catherizations. I was lucky enough to meet Hunter and his family and help them along their long journey. As his nurse practitioner I helped care for him, and coordinated getting him home to Durango where we continued to follow him via telehealth visits until he made it through his surgeries. Hunter is 6 months old and growing and thriving. I was so blessed to work him him and his family. Hunter will undergo another open heart surgery when he is between 2 and 4 years old.
Hunter will not be the last child to face a life-threatening illness, and his family will not be the last to navigate a frightening diagnosis.
The Courage Classic is not only a personal challenge, but also an opportunity to support positive outcomes and healthier futures for children.
