For the 6th consecutive year I’ll be riding in the Courage Classic and this year it’s personal…
Year after year, I boast about how amazing Children’s Hospital can be as I have watched friends and family receive remarkable care. This year the tables have turned and I am no longer a spectator for everything this institution is capable of doing.
In 2017, I will be riding for my son Mason who was recently diagnosed with stage 3 kidney cancer. After undergoing a nephrectomy in January, Mason is enduring an aggressive treatment plan that started with radiation and now continues with weekly chemotherapy. In the coming weeks Mason will undergo several more scans and procedures to determine if his cancer has progressed to stage 4.
From the onset of Mason’s diagnosis, we have had nothing but one positive experience after another at the hospital. I have always heard from those in treatment how great the staff can be and today I can tell you first hand that they are nothing less than amazing. From our surgery team (led by Dr. Nicholas Cost), to the oncologists (led by Dr. Carrye Cost), the nurses, social workers, support staff and countless others, we cannot be grateful enough for the treatment and support.
As a member of the Wheels of Justice team all funds raised go to Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders (CCBD) where Mason is currently receiving his weekly treatments. For everything Children’s has done for our family, participating in the Courage Classic is the least I can do to give back.
Thank you for your support,
The Mayer Family
