I ride in memory of Kyle Fan, my first child. 19 years ago, Kyle was diagnosed with Pompe disease at Children's Hospital. During his 14 months with us, Kyle received wonderful care from all the folks at Children's, from diagnosis to a clinical trial for a new enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) to his last weeks with us in the Butterfly Hospice Program. (While the ERT didn't work for Kyle because of antibodies, Myozyme® was approved four years after he died and is being successfully used to treat many children around the world.)
I also ride because our family loves spending time in the Colorado mountains. The Courage Classic has become a family tradition. This time, the tour has gone virtual, with individual riders safely determining their own course. I’ll be riding the standard 160-mile route Jul 18-19 and am being cajoled by Kiana into adding 90 miles with her up Loveland Pass and Hoosier pass on Jul 20. Eric and Darcy will ride a portion of the route, as well as provide support to Kiana and me.
It’s all worthwhile as we support this cause that is near and dear to our hearts. Please consider donating to Children’s so that other kids can have the same quality of care that Kyle did! Thanks!
